Wedding Documents Needed

Baptism Certificates for the Bride and Groom

Proof of  Christian Baptism for the bride and groom, if you were baptized in this parish, you may not need a certificate, if you were baptized in another church we'll need one!  We need a new baptism certificate, issued within the past 6 months by the church you were baptized in.   The Catholic Church recognizes most baptisms as valid, there are a few exceptions....ask your consulting Priest or Deacon.  If you were not baptized, that okay too...talk to your consulting clergy.

Why do I need a "New Baptism Certificate?"

Not a lot of Catholics know this, the Church where you were baptized is your "Home base," for recording all the sacraments you have received.   A new baptism certificate should have recorded all the sacraments you have received so far, including any past sacramental marriages, that will require a discussion .   We need to add this to your marriage file.

Pre Cana Completion Certificate

Talk to your consulting Priest or Deacon, there are many ways to complete the Pre Cana program.

Affidavits

You should get copies from your consulting Priest or Deacon.  These have to be signed by someone who has known you well for a while; family, friends, etc.  They are attesting that the bride and groom have never been married before (as far as the signers know), ant the bride and groom are not related.  The affidavits have to be witnessed by someone who saw them being signed.
